At Wes' 18 month check up his doctor recommended I pursue speech therapy since he seems to have a significant delay. Although it is not terribly worrisome, it is his philosophy that it is better to deal with it now than wait until he is in school and still remain behind. Since then I have been trying different avenues to get him free speech therapy. After a couple of months I was able to get an assessment through the local regional center, at which point they deemed him severely delayed in speech and slightly delayed in certain developmental areas (and advanced in gross motor skills). Since he qualifies for the free therapy under the severe delay in speech he can get therapy in any area. So he started developmental therapy a little over a month ago and is due to start the speech therapy next week. Here are a couple of pictures of Wes working with Miss Jade during developmental therapy (once a week at our house). I am really looking forward to speech therapy and hoping that his growth in speech will help out a bit with the regular tantrums. (Interestingly, I have seen his speech really begin to develop in the last month. He's gone from only saying "yeah" to also saying "help, more, Bella, Dada, and Mama" and is actually starting to say our names without being prompted to do so, which is very new).

Bath Time
After our time playing in the rain we came in and took a warm bath to make sure Wes didn't get sick. Wes has a lot of fun in the bath and for some reason wanted to wear his sunglasses while taking it (which he always puts on upside down). Silly little guy. I also love this picture because it kind of shows this new face he's been doing a lot when something excited him, like when Kurt gets home from work or when he hears a garbage truck near by, he opens his mouth really big and gets big eyes, it makes me giggle every time he does it. Love that little guy.

Rainy Days
It has been pouring for a few days. Wes is not a fan of staying inside all day so today I decided to let him go out and play in the rain. He loved it! We went out once this morning and once this afternoon (with his new rain boots that we went and bought in between). We walk our street every day and Wes' favorite thing right now is collecting leaves.
In this picture he has just collected a few and is pointing to Santa Clause across the street (a decoration on our neighbor's yard) whom we go say hi to once or twice a day.
A few days ago on one of our walks Wes also discovered that leaves aren't just for collecting, they're also fun to run through.
After we got the rain boots I let Wes run through our gutters and jump in the puddles. He had so much fun. He was soaked from head to toe, but the enjoyment was worth it.

22 Weeks
I can't believe that tomorrow I'll be starting my sixth month in this pregnancy. When I was feeling so awful in the beginning time was going by so slow and now it sure is flying. I am feeling generally great, just getting a little harder to move. Guess its time to get to work on getting the house ready for Brielle.

Cute!
Our Announcement
Here are a few pictures from the night we announced that we were having a girl. Some of Kurt's family came over. Kurt's mom brought over a pair of cute desserts.
Kurt had everyone vote and all but one said boy. When the time came Wes went into our room and brought out a doll dressed in girl clothes. You should have heard the screams.
Brielle Diane Newman
We've chosen a name for our little girl and are super excited. We fell in love with the name Brielle after finding it in a baby name book. For as long as I can remember I've wanted to name my first little girl to honor my mom, so we chose my mom's middle name Diane for her middle name. Can't wait to meet Brielle.

Tickle Time
One of Wes' favorite pastimes as of late, being tickled! I'll admit, tickling him is one of my favorite pastimes as well.

Hot Wheels With Uncle Nick
Nick and Jenny had Wes and I over tonight. Lately Wes has started to play with Hot Wheels which made Nick very excited, so he went out and got a bunch for next time we came over. Wes loved it! Nick set up a ramp and Wes got really into it.
Colorado-Day Three and Home
My last full day in Colorado we went to the zoo. Before the zoo we went Wes found one of Stacie's headband and put it on, lol.
One of the really cool things at their zoo is that you get to feed the giraffes. I was really excited for Wes to get this opportunity, but he was super scared and would only bury his head in my chest when we were close.
We also stopped by the playground at the zoo. Wes of course went straight for climbing.
Later that night Pat took care of the kids so we could have some fun girl time. He took them on a two hour bike ride!
For our fun girl time we decided to go shopping, which is soooo much easier without a bored toddler. We found some great deals in Gymboree and also got to browse in some other stores.
The flight home went so well, I actually teared up in joy at the end. First Wes and I got our own row to ourselves. He was so excited to have room to move and play with his cars. When we took off I had to hold Wes in my lap and he fell asleep and stayed asleep the entire time. It was so special to have two hours of cuddle time with my normally wiggly boy. To top it off, one of the flight attendants was one of the funniest guys I have ever met and at the end of the flight some actor I've never heard of got up in the front of the flight and proposed to his girlfriend.

Colorado -Day Two
On our first full day in Colorado, it was still a little rainy in the morning so we decided to check out the Focus on the Family indoor playground. I think it is made for slightly older kids, but we still had fun.
At lunch the kiddos especially enjoyed eating the whipped cream off of their free sundaes.
Like I said before, Wes really enjoyed playing with all of Baily's toys.
That night we all went to a local minor league baseball game. It only cost $2 to get in! It was pretty cold but also fun. Baily danced the night away to all the music, she did great at standing by mommy and daddy, while Wes was not content unless he was walking around the stadium.

Colorado - Day One
Well, as you may be able to tell from my lack of posting, I haven't been feeling so well lately, but I am feeling a little better each day and hoping to get back to regular posting (as well as actually getting stuff done around the house, lol). A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege to go visit my college roommate, Stacie and her family, hubby Pat and kiddos Baily (23 months) and Bryce (3 months) in Colorado. Praise the Lord, I felt pretty good while I was out there and had a great time catching up and seeing Colorado.
I was super nervous for the 2 1/2 hour flight, Wes is all boy and not inclined to sitting still for more than 30 seconds. Armed with lots of fruit snacks, lollipops, brand new matchbox cars and a portable dvd player, the flight went much better than I thought it would, with only a few quick screams from Wes. Of course, he fell asleep seconds before we landed and stayed asleep through baggage claim and for most of the ride into Colorado Springs.
Shortly after getting on the road we hit a major storm that lasted for a while, so our first night was spent in, which was just fine with Wes. It was like Christmas for him with all these different toys to play with.
Before bed we were able to video chat with Kurt (who was out of town as well). Wes and Baily both thoroughly enjoyed that.

Like Father Like Son
Kurt loves watches, he is always finding new watches that he wants. And just like his daddy, Wes now has a fetish for watches (his daddy's watches, of course). He is always trying to grab them out of his drawer. Here are a few pictures of Wes playing with some of daddy's watches.
