At Wes' 18 month check up his doctor recommended I pursue speech therapy since he seems to have a significant delay. Although it is not terribly worrisome, it is his philosophy that it is better to deal with it now than wait until he is in school and still remain behind. Since then I have been trying different avenues to get him free speech therapy. After a couple of months I was able to get an assessment through the local regional center, at which point they deemed him severely delayed in speech and slightly delayed in certain developmental areas (and advanced in gross motor skills). Since he qualifies for the free therapy under the severe delay in speech he can get therapy in any area. So he started developmental therapy a little over a month ago and is due to start the speech therapy next week. Here are a couple of pictures of Wes working with Miss Jade during developmental therapy (once a week at our house). I am really looking forward to speech therapy and hoping that his growth in speech will help out a bit with the regular tantrums. (Interestingly, I have seen his speech really begin to develop in the last month. He's gone from only saying "yeah" to also saying "help, more, Bella, Dada, and Mama" and is actually starting to say our names without being prompted to do so, which is very new).
